A Book (and sometimes other things) Review Blog

The Day Aberystwyth Stood Still by Malcom Pryce

Posted in Book Reviews by Bookman on August 14, 2011

It is May in Aberystwyth, and the mayoral election campaign – which ends with the traditional boxing match between candidates – is well underway.  But Louie Knight, Aberystwyth’s only Private Detective, finds himself embroiled in a new and mysterious case.

Twenty-five years ago, Iestyn Probert was hanged for his part in the raid on the Coliseum cinema.  But according to some accounts, shortly after his hanging, he was spotted boarding a bus to Aberaeron.  Was he really brought back to life by aliens?  And do the strange lights in the sky mean that they have returned?

The sixth book in the Aberystwyth series, like the previous entries it’s an well written, genre-busting concoction which drops a traditional Noir detective into bizarre plots with even stranger characters.  Described by one critic as “literary Marmite”, if you’ve got the taste from Pryce’s previous books then you’ll want to pick this up.
