A Book (and sometimes other things) Review Blog

And Furthermore by Judi Dench

Posted in Book Reviews by Bookman on July 3, 2011

From Shakespearean actress to “M” in the James Bond movies, via successful televison programmes like As Time Goes By and Cranford, Judi Dench has become one of the UK’s best-loved actresses.

Now in her own words, she discusses the whole of her career, from her early days at the RSC and the National, to her Oscar-winning success in Shakespeare in Love and beyond.

Primarily a stage actress for a large part of her career, she provides plenty of anecdotes and impressions of the many classic plays she performed, along with reminisces of her fellow actors, from contempories like Ian McKellan to respected greats such as John Gielgud.

Until the mid 1990′s she’d only appeared in about a dozen films, but winning the role of “M”, closely followed by Mrs Brown and Shakespeare In Love triggered a new phase in her career, brining her to the attention of a world-wide audience.

Affectionate and witty, this is a very entertaining memoir.
